Markus Grompe

Oregon Stem Cell Center and Papé Family Pediatric Research Institute, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland US     |   CV

Dr. Grompe is a pioneer in basic and clinical studies of single gene disorders. He is Director of the Papé Family Pediatric Research Institute. Grompe’s lab long-term goal is to contribute to the development of novel treatments for single gene disorders which, although individually rare, cumulatively represent a significant medical burden, particularly in children. Their particular areas of interest are metabolic liver diseases and the DNA repair disease Fanconi Anemia. Recently, they also have developed an interest in cell transplantation for type 1 diabetes. Recent insights include the selection and evaluation of clinically relevant adeno-associated viral serotypes for clinical applications and the generation of islet-like cells from mouse gall bladder by direct ex vivo reprogramming.
